It’s official: the European Union has finalized its ban on amalgam!
As the European Council explains in its press release:
“Today, the Council adopted a regulation to completely ban the use of dental amalgams… The regulation will now be signed and published in the Official Journal of the EU. It will enter into force on the twentieth day following publication and become directly applicable in all member states.”
As you will recall, the European Council and Parliament struck a deal to end the amalgam era last February. Now this deal has been formally adopted as the law of the land!
With this new regulation, we win four major victories…
- Amalgam use ends in all EU countries on 1 January 2025 (with only narrow exemptions that will be up for review by the end of 2029).
- Amalgam manufacture in the EU is phased out as of 1 July 2026.
- Amalgam exports from the EU are banned as of 1 January 2025.
- Amalgam imports into the EU are banned as of 1 July 2026.
It took more than a decade of our intense campaigning – from countless hearings and meetings with government officials to reams of comments and scientific evidence. We could not have done it without your support. Thanks to you, this toxic mercury product is now officially banned in all 27 EU countries!
Stay tuned as we push our own government in the United States to take note of the EU amalgam ban… and follow suit!
